CxO™ DELIVERABLE
AI Readiness Assessment
An AI readiness assessment is a scored review of whether your organization can put AI to work and get real results from it. DAG Tech's fractional chief AI officer rates six areas, finds the gaps that would slow or sink AI projects, and hands you a ranked list of what to fix first.

The Short Answer
What Is an AI Readiness Assessment?
An AI readiness assessment measures how prepared your organization is to adopt AI across strategy, data, platforms, security and governance, people, and processes, and shows which gaps to close first. Most AI projects that fail do not fail because of the model. They fail because the data is scattered or wrong, permissions let a chat assistant surface files people should not see, no one owns the use case, or staff are never shown how the tool fits their job. A readiness assessment finds those problems before you buy licenses or fund a build, so the money goes to AI that gets used. It also tells you where you are already strong, so quick wins can start right away.
DAG Tech runs the assessment as an early deliverable in a CxO engagement, usually right after the CxO initiation. Your fractional chief AI officer scores each area on a published scale, so leaders can see why a score was given and challenge it. The results feed straight into the AI strategy and roadmap. When a gap needs fixing, the CAIO recommends who should fix it: your team, another provider, or DAG Tech when we are the best fit.

Scope
What We Evaluate
We score six areas, each on the same scale, plus a focused check for Microsoft 365 Copilot when it is on your plan.
Strategy and use cases
Whether leadership has clear AI goals, a sponsor, and a list of use cases tied to real business outcomes.
Data
Where key data lives, who owns it, how clean and complete it is, and whether AI tools can reach it without exposing it.
Platforms and integration
Your cloud, identity and business systems, the AI features you already license, and whether systems have usable APIs or connectors.
Security and governance
Access controls, sensitivity labeling, data loss prevention, vendor terms, and whether an AI use policy exists and is followed.
People and skills
Current AI use by staff, skill levels by role, appetite for change, and who could own AI work internally.
Processes
Which workflows have the most manual effort, delay or rework, and whether they are documented well enough to change.
Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness
License fit, SharePoint and OneDrive oversharing, sensitivity labels, DLP, device management and who owns Copilot decisions.
The Deliverable

We confirm goals, scope and the systems in play, and schedule interviews.
- STEP 02
Interviews
We talk with leaders, process owners and a sample of staff about goals, workflows and current AI use.
- STEP 03
Technical review
We review data locations, permissions, identity, licensing and integration options with read-only access.
- STEP 04
Readout
We present the scorecard, ranked gaps and quick wins, and agree on the next step.
When to Start
Signs You Need an AI Readiness Assessment
- We want to buy Microsoft 365 Copilot or another AI tool and are not sure our data is ready.
- Staff already use AI tools and we do not know which ones.
- Leadership wants an AI plan and we do not know where to start.
- A past AI pilot stalled and no one is sure why.
- Our files and permissions have grown for years without cleanup.
- We cannot say which of our processes AI would help most.

FAQ
AI Readiness Assessment Questions
What does an AI readiness assessment cover?
Six scored areas: strategy and use cases, data, platforms and integration, security and governance, people and skills, and processes. When Microsoft 365 Copilot is on your plan, we add a focused check of licensing, oversharing, labels, DLP and ownership.
How long does an AI readiness assessment take?
It depends on the size of the organization and how many systems are in scope. Most of the time goes to interviews and the technical review. Your proposal lists the hours and the schedule before work starts.
Is this the same as a Copilot readiness assessment?
A Copilot readiness check is part of it. Copilot works with whatever a user can already access, so oversharing in SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams becomes a real exposure. We check that, plus the wider questions of whether the use cases, skills and processes are ready to get value from it.
How much does an AI readiness assessment cost?
The assessment is scoped in hours at the CxO rate, and your proposal shows the total before any work starts. Scope depends on headcount, locations and systems. Every proposal is custom-scoped.
What access do you need?
Interviews with leaders and process owners, plus read-only admin access to identity, file storage and licensing consoles, such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. We do not change anything during the assessment.
What happens after the assessment?
Most organizations move to an AI strategy and roadmap, which turns the findings into ranked use cases and a phased plan. Gaps that need fixing get a recommended owner: your team, another provider, or DAG Tech when we are the best fit.
