Compliance Framework Readiness Assessments

A compliance framework readiness assessment is a structured review of how close your controls, policies and evidence are to a specific framework before an auditor, assessor or regulator looks. DAG Tech's vCCO runs readiness assessments for HIPAA, SOC 2, CMMC and NYDFS Part 500 and gives you a dated plan to close the gaps.

The Short Answer

What Is a Compliance Framework Readiness Assessment?

A compliance framework readiness assessment measures your current controls, policies and evidence against one framework's requirements, so you know what to fix before the formal audit, assessment or certification. Each framework asks a different question. HIPAA asks whether you protect electronic protected health information. SOC 2 asks whether your controls meet the Trust Services Criteria your customers care about. CMMC asks whether you protect Federal Contract Information and Controlled Unclassified Information in DoD work. NYDFS Part 500 asks whether a regulated financial services company runs a cybersecurity program that meets New York's rules. A readiness assessment answers that question for your organization, control by control, and shows which gaps carry the most risk to your deadline.

Readiness is not the formal audit. DAG Tech does not issue SOC 2 reports, CMMC certifications or regulatory findings. Those come from a licensed CPA firm, an authorized C3PAO or the regulator. The vCCO gets you ready for them. Where you face more than one framework, we map the overlap so one control and one piece of evidence can satisfy several requirements. Readiness assessments are usually the first deliverable after a CxO initiation, and they feed directly into a readiness plan.

Scope

What We Evaluate

Every framework assessment covers the same core areas, scored against that framework's specific requirements.

01

Scope and boundaries

Which systems, data, locations and providers fall inside the framework's scope.

02

Governance and policies

Whether required policies exist, are approved and match how you actually operate.

03

Risk assessment

Whether you have a current, documented risk assessment of the kind the framework requires.

04

Access control and MFA

How identities, privileged accounts and multi-factor authentication are managed in platforms like Entra ID or Okta.

05

Data protection

Encryption, data classification, retention and backup for in-scope data.

06

Logging and monitoring

Whether security events are logged, reviewed and acted on.

07

Incident response

Your plan, reporting timelines and evidence of testing.

08

Third-party risk

How service providers that touch in-scope data are vetted and contracted.

09

Evidence readiness

Whether you can produce the proof an auditor or assessor will ask for.

Frameworks

Choose Your Framework

HIPAA Gap Assessment

A HIPAA gap assessment compares your current safeguards for electronic protected health information (ePHI) with the requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule and lists what is missing or weak.

YOU RECEIVE
  • HIPAA Security Rule gap report by safeguard and specification
  • Updated security risk analysis inputs and risk register
  • Addressable specification decisions and documentation gaps

SOC 2 Readiness Assessment

A SOC 2 readiness assessment tests whether your controls meet the AICPA Trust Services Criteria you plan to report on, so gaps are fixed before a licensed CPA firm performs the actual SOC 2 audit.

YOU RECEIVE
  • SOC 2 scope recommendation and Type I or Type II decision
  • Control-by-criteria gap report
  • Control matrix ready for your CPA firm

CMMC Readiness Assessment

A CMMC readiness assessment measures your environment against the CMMC level your DoD contracts require, so you can fix gaps before you submit a self-assessment or face a certification assessment.

YOU RECEIVE
  • CMMC level determination and assessment scope diagram
  • Requirement-by-requirement gap report
  • Estimated SPRS score under the DoD assessment methodology

NYDFS 500 Cybersecurity Assessment

A NYDFS 500 cybersecurity assessment measures a regulated entity's cybersecurity program against the New York Department of Financial Services rule, 23 NYCRR Part 500, and identifies what must change before the annual compliance filing.

YOU RECEIVE
  • Section-by-section Part 500 gap report
  • Evidence inventory showing what supports your annual filing
  • Certification readiness opinion with open items listed

FAQ

Compliance Framework Readiness Assessments Questions

What is a compliance framework readiness assessment?

It is a review of your controls, policies and evidence against one framework, done before the formal audit or assessment. It shows what is missing, what carries the most risk and what to fix first.

Does DAG Tech issue SOC 2 reports or CMMC certifications?

No. A SOC 2 report must be issued by a licensed CPA firm, and CMMC Level 2 certification assessments are performed by an authorized C3PAO. DAG Tech prepares you for those engagements and coordinates with the firm you choose.

Which framework should we start with?

Start with the one tied to your nearest deadline or largest contract. If you are not sure which applies, the vCCO maps your data, customers and contracts to the right frameworks first.

Can one assessment cover several frameworks?

Yes. Many controls overlap, such as access control, MFA, encryption, logging and incident response. We assess each framework's specific requirements and map shared controls so the same evidence can serve more than one.

How much does a readiness assessment cost?

Every deliverable is scoped in hours at the CxO rate, based on the framework, the scope boundary and the number of systems. Your proposal shows the total before work starts.

What happens after the assessment?

You get a remediation roadmap. The vCCO recommends who should close each gap: your in-house team, another provider or DAG Tech when it is the best fit. Many clients move into readiness planning and ongoing vCCO support.
